Finishing strong at the Hawaiian Marathon—my 13th 26.2-mile journey.

My Run-Walk-Run Journey

Welcome! I'm Don, and this blog is my personal journal where I share the lessons, tips, and evidence-based advice I've gathered while living the Run-Walk-Run Revolution.

I didn't lace up my first pair of running shoes until my early 40s—proof that it's never too late to start. Like many who come to the sport later in life, I dealt with persistent injuries that threatened to keep me off the road entirely. Discovering the Jeff Galloway Run-Walk-Run method changed everything. It wasn't just about finishing races; it was about finding a sustainable, science-backed approach to running that fits into the demands of a busy modern life. This site is dedicated to helping others find that same success, no matter when they start.

Credentials & Certifications

I believe in backing up experience with education. Over the years, I've invested in professional certifications that allow me to approach running, health, and performance from multiple angles:

  • Jeff Galloway Program Director — As a Program Director for the Galloway Group, I lead runners through the structured Run-Walk-Run training programs developed by Olympian Jeff Galloway. This role involves designing season-long training plans, mentoring run-walk-run participants of all levels, and helping runners prepare for distances from the 5K to the full marathon.
  • ISSA Certified Running Coach — My certification through the International Sports Sciences Association gives me a solid foundation in running biomechanics, periodized training design, injury prevention strategies, and race-day pacing.
  • ISSA Certified Nutrition Coach — Fueling matters just as much as mileage. My nutrition coaching certification allows me to share practical, research-informed guidance on pre-run fueling, recovery nutrition, hydration strategies, and how everyday eating habits support long-term running performance.
  • Certified Brain Fitness Coach — Running is as much a mental game as a physical one. My brain fitness certification informs the mindset, focus, and cognitive wellness strategies I discuss on this blog—because a strong mind is the foundation of a strong runner.

Race Experience

Through the highs and lows of training across thousands of miles, I've had the privilege of completing:

  • 13 Full Marathons (including the grueling Dopey Challenge—a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon on four consecutive days)
  • 35+ Half Marathons

Every one of those finish lines was crossed using the Run-Walk-Run method. That experience—race after race, year after year—is the backbone of everything I write about here.

Why I Started Running Late (And Why That's an Advantage)

Starting in my early 40s meant I had no choice but to train smart from day one. I didn't have decades of base fitness to fall back on, so I learned quickly what works and what leads to the injury cycle that sidelines so many adult-onset runners. That perspective shapes every piece of content on this blog. I write for real people balancing careers, families, and the desire to stay healthy—because that's exactly who I am.

The Run-Walk-Run Mission

My goal is simple: to help you stay injury-free and discover that running can be a lifelong path to better health and a more balanced life. Whether you are a brand-new runner taking your first steps or a seasoned veteran looking for a more sustainable approach, I hope the combination of my certifications, race experience, and real-world lessons can help you find your own revolution on the road through the power of strategic walk breaks and smart training.
